Fad diets promise a quick solution to a weight problem, but we all know this is either not good for our health or it’s impossible. Despite that, fad diets are popular. Fad diets do more harm than good. People always gain the weight back  and end up yoyo-ing because fad diets are always temporary and don’t lead to permanent weight loss.

I’m sure you tried or know someone who tried  The Cabbage Soup Diet, Atkins Diet, Zone Diet or The 90 Days Diet. The results are always the same. You lose weight, but that is mostly water and muscle tissue, you feel weak because your body lacks minerals and vitamins, you have unexpected craves and at the end you regain all the weight you lost and even you earn  some extra pound.

The biggest problem is that quick weight loss schemes can turn into a vicious circle. The more muscles mass one has, the faster the metabolism and very little of the food intake gets to be stored as fat. But if the diet makes you lose muscle mass, then your metabolism slows down and the accumulated fat is burned slower and slower. As you can see, a bad diet makes it harder for you to lose weight. Starving yourself is not a good  idea because your metabolism has to function at the proper speed in order to help you lose weight.

How to Recognize a Fad Diet?

  • Most of the fad diets recommend not taking certain type of food, such as dairy products or breads.  Eliminating a major food group is dangerous, and could lead to malnutrition.
  • On the other hand a fed diet will encourage you to have more of another type of food such as cabbage , beans, eggs.
  • The diet promises to reduce weight in quick time
  • The diet promises to reduce weight without any physical exercise. It would be nice if we could believe that we could lose weight without moving a muscle, but we all know it is impossible.
  • The diet which does not have any scientific research proofs to support its claims.

Fad diets come and go – most of the time with little long-term weight loss success.  Fad diets could have consequences and can even be life threatening. If you want to lose weight natural way, you should read our Diet Action List
