Snacking Habits

People seem to snack and overeat for a variety of reasons like stress, anxiety or just simple boredom.

Snacks were ”invented” to tie us over until we have our meals which are breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the last 20 years snacks have become more then a hold over until meals, snacks are turning into meals. If we sit in front of the TV, watch some sports or movie, we need a big bag of potato chips or buttered pop corns in our hand. I know, for many people it might be hard to control snacking, but if you want to lose weight, you must change some unhealthy habits.

Snacking in between meals is identified as one of the major reasons why people fail with their weight loss plans.

There are a few tips one can do to avoid your urge for snacking:

Proper Sleeping. To avoid eating in between meals, it is essential to take a minimum of 8 hours for complete rejuvenation of health system which further prevents urge to eat in between meals.

Set a Meal Schedule. If you know that you are going to eat a healthy meal at a certain time this will help you resist the urge of snacking. No one wants to ruin eating a big steak to eat a candy bar.

Eat Proper Meals. Instead of 3 big meals if you can take 5 small meals that would be even better. That way you will not be hungry at any time of the day. When you have feeling of starvation it’s more likely that you will grab some snack.

Avoid Unhealthy Food. If you feel the urge to snack, instead of reaching for chips or chocolate, substitute your snack with food rich with protein, fiber and nutrients. Any fruit or vegetable will do. Broccoli, carrots, apple, banana or orange are great snack foods that are all good for you.

Healthy Drinks. Increased intake of herbal beverages or teas during a day greatly contributes in fulfilling body’s daily requirement of nutrients and prevents feelings of cravings. A glass of water can also be taken whenever a strong snacking urge develops.

Diet Pills. Some natural diet pills like Proactol will suppresses your appetite and help you to get rid of unnecessary snacks.

Don’t store snacks. When we have snacks within our reach we are more likely to eat them. Many of us store snacks in our desk at the office, in the car or in cupboards at home so that we can eat it when we feel the urge. Don’t do this anymore.

Have a supportive friends. Being friend with those who are health conscious can be a good motivation to you to stay away from unhealthy snacks.
