If you think that skipping breakfast will help you lose weight, think again! Starting your day with a meal packed with both carbohydrates and lean protein, can help lessen cravings and hunger the rest of the day, which can lead to significant weight loss, new research suggests. An ongoing study of people who have maintained weight loss of at least 30 pounds for more than a year shows that eating breakfast keeps people slimmer. Breakfast eaters tend to eat fewer calories, less saturated fat and cholesterol and have better overall nutritional status than breakfast skippers.
What is the link between eating breakfast and weight loss?
When you wake in the morning, your body is primed to look for food. Your metabolism is revved up, and your brain needs energy right away. If you don’t eat or you eat too little, the brain needs to find another fuel source. To do this, it activates an emergency system that pulls energy from muscle, destroying muscle tissue in the process. Then when you eat later, the body and brain are still in high-alert mode, so the body saves energy from the food as fat, fearful of being starved. When you eat breakfast, your body feels nourished and satisfied, making you less likely to overeat the rest of the day. As part of a healthy diet and lifestyle, eating a healthy breakfast helps to shed excess weight and to maintain weight loss. The key to weight loss and maintaining optimum weight is to supply the brain with the food it needs by feeding the body. On the other hand, the morning meal boosts metabolism.
Healthy Breakfast
A healthy breakfast should contain proteins and fibers. Proteins usually come from eggs, but it could be soy, fat-free turkey, yogurt, etc. Fibers are part of wholegrain breads, cereals, vegetables and fruits.
Pastry ,fast food sandwich, sugary cereal, pizza and other are certainly not considered as good breakfast and you should forget about that ‘’food’’.
